Illustration Friday: Theater

Dress Rehearsal

Thought I'd post my latest IF, haven't posted anything here for a while! I think I could have done better with the whole lights and shadow thing... I tried :)

Illustration Friday and New Kiddo...

So I haven't been making much art lately. I had to go back to teaching full-time for a while and it really cut into my play time. I never realized how much time I was wasting. LOL I should have spent more time finalizing pieces instead of just doodling. :)

I wish I had a studio to show, but my studio is my couch. LOL I keep all my watercolors and pencils in boxes and pull them out to paint at my table or on my day off. Not the best way to do it, but our house is pretty little. I would soooo love a drafting table or space to leave things out until they get done, but my little one would "help" on anything left out. I think this is one of the reasons I pretty much concentrate on characters and small little studies. I don't have the time or space to paint full pieces...wow, I really need to think of something. LOL

Mostly what I do get done is rubber stamp designs and I have just had a new stamp release...happiness and joy! This is one of the stamps, colored in graphite and photoshopped: I know I probably shouldn't post two images, but I didn't realize how much these two looked alike until tonight...heehee. This is the past week's illustration friday post...yeah for getting that done, almost on time. LOL

I hope everyone has a great week. :) All thoughts are welcome.

Redos and corrections

Thanks to everyone for the critiques on this illustration. I made a much of changes and hopefully this piece is much stronger now. Not completely satisfied, but have to stop working on it at some point. Thanks again.

Here's my studio space

It's one half of a very narrow and long room on the east side of the house. My husband commands the other half of the room. There's a window in front of the red basket (which has all my paintbrushes in it!) and opposite that is a step up and a door into the living room.

The white dresser is full of papers and knick knacks and cds. In the far left is a printer and a half sheet sized light table. The black mesh thing above the light table is a metal grid with hooks full of different templates and triangles and tape and cutting boards, etc...

The corner desk where the large monitor sits has shelves full of pads of papers, sketch books, tissue paper rolls and half completed paintings. Behind the white dresser are dozens of full sheets of watercolor paper in plastic sleeves awaiting the birth of paintings.

Tiny space, filled to the gills. :)

Studio Space

Great idea! Here's my space. It used to have my bed where the couch is at...but now that I have a bed that won't fit there (and is now in my livingroom), the space is now totally studio (aside from my small dresser that holds clothes). So I have shot from the door way looking towards the end of the room, then a shot from the couch (end of the room) towards the door, and a close up of my drawing table. :)

Magic Gone all Wrong

I really could use some help with this image so any critiques would be great. Why ever back lit this illustration, it's horrible in photography and a nightmare in art. I will never try back lighting an illustration again. I just want to make sure this reads good and the lighting and shadows work. I want to use this illustration for my Directory of Illustration ad.

Baby Girl Monster

So in less than a month my baby will be here. Don't know the sex, but the room is going to be decorated with baby monsters. Not nervous now like I was the past seven months. I really can't wait to see the baby and hold it and yes, even change it. I've heard all the horror stories, all about the lack of sleep and I'm still excited.

Animals planting

This wasn't a very clever illustration, but it has a high level of cute attached to it. I wanted to do the entire thing in Adobe Illustrator, and I took it this far:

And I wanted to show it to the group before I went any further. What do you think of it? I have yet to really add any real solid 'depth' to the characters (shading and such) or details to the ground plain, but is there anything i'm missing or could do? What do you think?

EDIT - April 25th - this is the finished illustrator version, I'm going to try and do a photoshop version (whenever I have the time)...

Studio Spaces

I thought it might be cool if we shared what our studio spaces look like. I work out of the basement of my home. It's a good space, but I wish I had a window. Someday I would like to have a House with a big yard where I can build a studio/storage area overlooking a pool and garden. Aren't dreams the best.

Rustle Hustle

With the large amount of work we must do, business cards, postcards, website, online galleries, etsy, illustration friday, projects, imagekind, artwanted, ebay, emails, phone calls....get my drift...what do you create or do to relax?

I never really had any hobbies, always saying my art was my hobby. I discovered I love cooking, and I'm actually good at it! O.O But I also started to paint flowers instead of figures, fantasy or children's.

What about you? What do you do to de-stress and stay sane? :)
