little girl praying...

I posted this on my website - and I put it up for a contest on Dreamstime.  The theme this month is spirituality and religion.

I did it completely in Adobe Illustrator (version 8) as that's what one usually has to use for stock illustration sites.  I really like how it turned out - and I'm thinking of doing another one with a boy praying at night but with a more translucent glow...

There's a Monster in the Fridge

Here's an illustration I've been working on for a couple of weeks now.

Sketchoholic.com

Was on sketchoholic last night [LINK] watching Bobby Chiu's latest live streaming video and participated in his live drawing contest. Have to draw a given subject in less than an hour. The participants upload their art and then vote on the art posted. It's a fun event and I actually won last night. Get an original Bobby Chiu art sketch/painting.

something is lacking...

I can't put my finger on it, but this piece is lacking something...anyone have any suggestions?  I tried to do the whole thing in Adobe Illustrator, which is why there's so much flat color....

1 hr paint session...

If you haven't been to Steve Harpster's blog in awhile, then I suggest you take a peek. Not only has he been going over some pretty interesting self-publishing content - he's been doing really great color studies that have inspired me to kick my art up a notch.

As mini-break from the book I'm illustrating now, I decided to take one hour to study on of my favorite painters - Norman Rockwell. I gotta say, this was really fun. An hour has never gone as quickly as it did. I was frantically mixing and looking to get as much done as I could inside the time limit.

Here's the result! Hope everyone is well and I can't wait to see more of our group's work. I'm going to try harder to post more often.

Where I've been hiding or I gave birth to a new book!

So I dropped off the face of the planet. Well not really, but for all intents and purposes I have been absent from a lot of places in the last several months.

I just gave birth to a bouncing baby book. :D I delivered all the final art to the pub on Monday. I still can't share inside spreads (15 full bleed spreads!) but I can post the cover as the book is up for pre-order on amazon and the pub's web site. :D

My next project will be hand painted leather masks. And then onto a new book, hopefully. I have to get some postcard art created to send out as a mailer for that to happen.

Portfolio Booklets on my blog

Hey everyone. A member of this site e-mailed me last night asking about advertising in the Directory of Illustration. I told her I thought it was the worst decision I ever made. I decided to post my reasons on my blog for anyone interested. LINK

I'm also venturing into the realm of self publishing. I'm keeping an online journal of my thought process as I go through this adventure. I should be going to press soon and if you have any interest in self publishing or reading about me having a nervous breakdown while I go through this make sure to check my blog from time to time.

Thanks,
Steve

I'm in a group gallery show...

And it completely snuck up on me.  I was able to get this piece finished over the weekend - and I have to get it printed by some time tuesday.  Hopefully at least one of you will read this and critique it - is there anything I missed?

It's IG-88...

I meant to do something spectacular for the group show - to stand out...something with my own characters, but then I got it into my head to do IG-88...and this is what I spent all my time on...any suggestions?
