Character tonal study

This was done in Photoshop - any suggestions?

So I did a little bit of a revision - popped more of the highlights and changed the shadows:

I love the blue of this. It really sets a tone. Well done.

Awesome scheme you've set up, Isaac!

I really like your lighting. If anything, I'd say go even further accenting where the moonlight is striking most directly. By that, I mean on the rooftops, on the right sides/tops of the trees and characters...but this may still be in progress so you may already be planning that. Maybe soften the clouds?

There really is a great feel to this!

I'd be curious to see how you do this and how/if you manage things in layers when painting digitally. I just bought Photoshop...now I need a Wacom to really see how the heck you guys do all this cool stuff!

Isaac- looking good. I like the blue, but I think it's all too much in the same hue (tone?)...it's so hot in NY that I can't think straight. I agree with Pete as well about accenting the moonlighting. Where the tree's are, I would make the color a "greener" blue, and the rooftops a "redder" blue. Not too much because you want to keep the integrity of the piece, but enough to make it a little more interesting in the color arena. As far as the moon light accentuation, reflect it off of the two little guys in the flying contraption so that the eye moves to them after the moon. I'm not as versed in the technicals of Photoshop, so I can't tell you what to use:( sorry, but it's coming along nicely!

I think this came out great! I love the blue and I like how it gets lighter at the bottom left corner where the city lights might be shining. When I looked at this at first I thought it was a 3d art program that you used. You should do another scene like this. As if it was a picture book.

Thanks for the kind words! I started this the same way I do all my illustrations - in Illustrator. That way I can select each area I want to paint very easily - Then I expand the selection so the colors will overlap a little (so there's no ghosting between shapes) and there it is. I took this as far as I could on my own, so I'm glad you guys had suggestions...I'm going to do a version where it's all in blue (with stronger highlights and softer clouds) and another version with a bit of natural coloring.

Thanks again!

I really like the added texture to this. The one thing that I am wondering about is that my eye is drawn right to that moon. I am wondering if it could be looking back at them to maybe pull your eye over to your little guys in the plane.
