Big changes...

Hey everyone. Well, in the last couple of weeks, my family made a pretty big decision. I retired from teaching middle school (after 8 years) to give this children's illustration dream of mine the full attention I think it deserves. I'll also be able to stay home with our 2 kids which is awesome! So I'll be around lots more now, as I'm going to be kicking myself in the pants pretty hard to stay up on creating new, dynamic, and exciting pieces for my portfolio. I'm hoping to be submitting to agents as well. Prepare for the blitz!

I'm also giving oils a try in earnest now. It's what I really want to be working in (acrylics dry to dang quick) and I want to maintain a "fine art" quality to what I produce.

While trying not to seem too redundant, I selected another Rockwell for a color study. The line drawing has some pretty obvious flaws, but I'll be really focusing on color. Anyways, that's what's going on with me and what I'm working on.

That's awesome pete! Congrats and good luck! It's hard as hell to make it completely with illustrating - make sure you network like mad!

True, true, true. I'm trying to hammer out how often I send out postcards. I'm going to follow your great advice of sending to art directors AND editors. I think that was sound advice. My plan is to pretty much drive them crazy with examples of my work. "Man, this guy again? Give him a job already!"

I also like Steve's idea of doing a little self-publishing as well. Lulu.com offers some potential.

Congrats Pete- that's a huge decision, but one that you will be happy to have made in the long run. Risk is what life is all about.

Conrats Pete....it is a full time job!!! Well, really being a parent and an illustrator are full time independently of each other. :)

I really think you will be one of those famous names one day. :) You are an amazing illustrator and I think you will be fine. :)
