Domain Registering...

I've been using a portfolio hosting service and am wanting to move on. They've been handling the domain and hosting for a flat annual fee. Can you guys recommend some reputable companies for domain registration only (godaddy, etc.)? I just want to make sure I'm going with a solid company.

Any and all input is most appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, pete! Um, you already know about godaddy, but I use it for hosting 2 of my domains. One is linked through Smugmug, where my photography portfolio is hosted, and the other one I own but don't really use, though I have plans for an artist porfolio in the future - I'll probably end up trashing this one, though, because I want to use my full-name-illustration for a domain instead.

I use Cyberultra and they've been great! Good prices too -- I was tipped off on it by another artist friend when I was looking.

I've used godaddy for 10+ years. I also have hosting with them. They are easy to use and based in the US. I have never had a problem with them that wasn't resolved easily and within 48 hours or less.

I've been using Yahoo to do both Domain and hosting. a few years back I used someone else and then used yahoo to host it - but somehow the year was up and they didn't automatically renew and then someone else bought www.isaacmarzioli.com and I lost it for a couple of years...

For me, it's been the easiest to do everything with one company - less to worry about and less places to spread yourself thin. And if you went through yahoo, there's less chance they'll go out of business or screw you in any way. I assume godaddy is fine, but I don't have experience with them...

I signed up with godaddy...mainly because my new site will be designed with Apple's MobilMe. I will be saving substantially. I'll show you the finished website as soon as I can.

Thanks for the input!

Heya Pete,
I agree with Isaac and have both domain and hosting with Yahoo. I have had my site hosted by them since the beginning...first free website in Geocities fifteen years ago. I left them and was hooked up through a different server and friend, but that burned me and went back.

I've heard mixed reviews about GoDaddy, but that was mainly with hosting not domain registration. Good luck! :)
