For my gallery show

Hi folks...

I've been super busy on stupid work...so I haven't had time to post anything...but I will be posting a bit this next month or so because I have a little gallery going up in July at Nickelodeon Animation (where I work) in Burbank, CA. So I want these to be perfect...so let me know what you think about this one - I originally did it as an illustrator painting, but didn't like the way that I cheaped out on the texture and gradient...so this weekend i had more time and did a photoshop version.

Any ideas or suggestions? Or, dare I say, is it perfect? Steve always does such amazing eyes...so I tried to do my version of his really well done eyes...I'm still working on it...they're not perfect...but they're better than my usual flat eyes that I've painted in the past...

I'm not really sure what the floating brown bag is for. Can you move it further into the image so its purpose is more clear.

Like the new eye style. Good job.

Hey, Isaac. I like this rendition better than the previous, in terms of color.

I think it looks good as is, but the shade on the panda's face is very slight. Any thoughts about darkening his face shadows? I see a nicely defined 3D point on his right hip (is that a hip?) That light area might extend up from there if that makes sense...creating a darker region on the left side of his body (from the viewer's point of view). Pretty nit-picky on my part, but that's all I see. Nicely done!

by 3D point, I mean the highlight on his hip, under the left eye....just to clarify.

Wow Isaac, you've done so much more work on this since last I saw it!! The textures are looking great, especially on the tree and dirt. The new eye style looks awesome -- it really helps give them depth.
I don't think I have anything to add, really! Pete's suggestion about darkening the shadow a bit would be interesting to see...
Great job!

Hello Issac,

Howdy! I'm a new member and thought I'd add my thoughts on your piece here. Firstly, I want to say that your character is simply adorable and unique in that it is hard to define exactly what it really is to the viewer. I also love how you have painted the illustration. I see that the shovel, clouds, and the brown bag are clearly 3D. What stands out for me is your character. My eyes want to say that he is also 3D but the way he is shaded it is not so apparent. There are some portions of him that are 3D but other portions that are 2D. If you are wanting a complete 3D effect, I would darken his right side just before the start of his eyes all the way down his body. That will make him more obviously 3D and box-like. I would also darken some of your shadows so that things pop out even more.

I like the Image here. This is a very cartoon cell style illustration, so I think the eyes are fund the way they are. The to the eye is that the pupil is a clear ball that light passes through. I'll go into more detail on this later. I'm at the hospital right now, my wife is having contractions. Should have a baby tomorrow.

thanks for the comments everyone! I forgot to mention that you have to click on the picture to see the full image...I do have to work more on the panda...I just have trouble putting color into white...but I want to make this image as perfect as I can...so I'm going to go back in and work on the panda! Thanks for the suggestions!
