IF - Frozen (sketch)

Taking your crit and applying it, the story grew. :D Dunno if this makes any more sense visually, but am I on to something? Surprisingly I'm still interested in this piece after all of the perspective work and reworking. Normally it grows stiff and I never finish it. :P

Hey everyone! Sorry (I say that a lot don't I), on another track of mind and got lost. :/ All of the work just looks so freakin' fantastic. What's awesome is you can see progress in your works and technique. I truly hope that somewhere in there the critiques have helped improve your skills as well.

I can finally say that I am now devoting 100% of my work time to childrens' books and building my portfolio. It's awesome and kinda scary all at the same time. I have realized how much isn't in my portfolio. Technique, check, color, check, detail, check. But I lack in interaction, interesting perspectives, and play. Most of my work is posed or better suited for licensing.

With that I took this week's word from IF and made it a challenge. I started with half of the size above. I knew full well the perspective was off and it wasn't interesting enough. I posted it on the scbwi forum but after two days no response for critique. After that I reworked it today and this is what I came up with (above). The only thing I see now to change is where the two skaters' legs meet making a "v". It's driving me nuts! But do you see anything else? Do I need to jazz it up more? Something missing?

Thanks everyone for being so productive!

IF Pattern - WIP

Sketched this tonight. I'm so excited because I've wanted to do a Princess and the Pea illustration for YEARS and now have an excuse to do so. :D Each mattress and blanket, including the wall will have a pattern on it. Only the princess will not. I'm not entirely sold on the window. Let me know if it works or not. If not, any suggestions on how to say it's night time would be great. Remember, she's on tons of mattresses so she's pretty high up in the room. :)

Can't wait to see all of your Illustration Friday sketches/illos!

Illustration Friday Challenge

I'm back, up, and running! Whoo! After about a month of getting life back together, getting on track, and placing my behind into a schedule, I'm ready to take off. I've been keeping up with the blog, tho not posting, but reading (they come through my email), and we've been quiet for over a week.

So I CHALLENGE YOU! hehe And me. :P

I challenge each member of this board to post a WIP for this upcoming Illustration Friday word. Dunno what it is yet, but once it is posted find 15mins and sketch something out. Even if it isn't a finished sketch, so what! Hey, you got the sketch done, that's post-able! It would be awesome to see everyone submit to IF this upcoming week. :) I really hope everyone is doing well, and have LOTS of work to do (which is why none of us are posting right? ^_- ). God bless and talk soon!

IF: Poise - Adelia

It's been forever since I've posted a new image - I've been so busy with a couple of projects. It's been horrible. But I wanted to create something for today's illustration friday...and when i thought of poise, I immediately thought of a tight rope walker...and there's no better daredevil than my Adelia character. That's not true, but I still wanted to do something with this character...

Now this was a really rough drawing that I quickly cleaned up - I like it, but wanted to know what you all thought. And I'm not so concerned with color right now, but composition...does it work?

Illustration Friday - Instinct

I promise to get something that isn't finished up here in the near future. I am about to start working on a larger portfolio illustration, so I will probably want some serious input. Until then, I was pleased with this new little watercolor that I put together.
