Valentine Night (wip)
All finished. :)
-----------------------------
Did a few sketches last night for valentine's day, but never really thought I'd do a solid watercolor piece. But tonight I had the time...finished my freelance for the day, cleaned, watched some tv, and decided now is the time to work on something personal, tho I'm sure there's something else I could be doing that has to do with work. humm... Oh well. :P
So I thought I'd make some cards...well, then I saw a magazine rip out I grabbed that had this little boy fixing this little girl's bonnet. This is the result of that. It's 5x7. Thought I'd share. :) I'm thinking light reds and pinks for both of their outfits. James Browne did a piece that is sticking in my head that kind of reminds me of this. So I'm using him for some inspiration. Here's a link to his piece:

hey! I likes!
Your characters are a little more solid than this James Browne character (I don't care if he IS the hardest working man in show business!). The colors (red and pinks) will stand out nicely against the background.
I really like the watercolor in the background - it gives a lot of energy and action to the piece - and once you add the color for the characters, while the background should recede, it'll still add a hint of movement/interest.
Anyhow - very nice stuff.
Gotta agree with Isaac. I love the background and this will be adorable finished in reds and pinks. The only thing I might suggest is stars and specks in the background? I don't even need to look at Browne's... I like yours. :)
Aww, this is very sweet. I like the composition very much as well, all of the elements are placed just so. What colors do you think you'll use on the branch? Something light or dark?
I agree about maybe adding a few stars here and there, just for a little dimension. Can't wait to see what you do with the shadows!
very cute night time scene! I think the colors are great for the characters - and the addition of the stars in the background are subtle but a nice touch!
I love the wings on the boy! Great job! There are a couple of small tangents (the girls wings with the tree branch...I mean, they don't really touch, but they're so close and the wing is pointing down just enough that it feels like it's touching)...
But it's not a big deal, and the picture looks great!
The final is lovely. :) Nice touch on the stars. :)
Very beautiful and emotional! Your lighting is always something to behold, Sara!
As always Sara, your shadows are wonderful! I think the subtle pinks and reds are just right for this -- much brighter and it might not have worked with the gray/black sky, I think. Lovely work!
