Awesome work! Its a really creative character. I think the patterning on his/her body is well done and the color is well applied.
I also really like the reflecting blue water underneath the foot. I think the best part of the whole thing is the eye, though. Magnificent!
There are 2 things that stand out to me.
First, his walking posture. When people walk, the arms tend to swing on opposing motion to the feet. Its nit-picky for sure, but for me it feels awkward. Try walking like that and you'll see what I mean.
Second, it would be cool to see some of his green color reflecting in the puddles below him.
It's a great illustration. How the heck do you keep coming up with these characters? I envy your design creativity!
Ah ha! Pete caught ya! But on the other hand - maybe a fish creature wouldn't know how to walk the correct way, all balanced and such, so it would swing it's arms in such an awkward way. Also - maybe with the webbed fingers, it walks that way on purpose - with the wind through the webbing helping to balance.
Also - I'm going to agree with Pete that you do some terrific monster characters! They're terribly creative and well done. This one has some good detail work and the eyes are incredible. I also like the spit from between the teeth.
So anyway - I can't see anything wrong with the piece - it's done quite well - just the walking thing - unless it was done on purpose...
Well, it's funny I noticed the walking issue when I finished the piece and I cringed a bit, but I thought it added to the fish out of water theme. In the original sketch the creature was holding a pop can. I changed the hand because the soda can gave the creature a sense of scale that I didn't like. I wanted the viewer to look at it and not know if it was 5 feet tall or 5 inches tall.
